I don’t typically offer summer senior sessions because it is just extremely too hot here in Texas. But I knew that I needed to learn the area and start finding my locations for sessions. So, I grabbed Tyra, a class of 2023 senior who was referred to me by one of my class of 2022 seniors (Alex) and we took on downtown Killeen.

When I think of summer, I always think of the 90s. With the block parties and Will Smith’s “Summertime” on blast setting the vibes for the season and everybody just having a good time. So we went retro for this summer senior session. For Tyra, this meant Fresh Prince of Bel Air, TLC and Aaliyah as inspiration for the session. How perfect is that? Tyra is the epitome of being a girly girly and a tomboy and the late Aaliyah was perfect for showing off both sides of that in her fashion.

Tyra started out with a 90s block party style for her first outfit. Wearing a Bel Air shirt, with a bucket hat and Air Force Ones with chunky gold accessories gave off Fresh Prince of Bel – Air, Aaliyah, and TLC vibes all in one. Downtown Killeen definitely gave us that urban aesthetic to match the vibe and played all of the 90s hits to set the tone. Can’t you just see the big square boomboxes and beat boxing on the corner just from this look alone? I am so in love with this look and it was fun to listen to 90s music to set the vibe to get the shots.

If you didn’t know already… the 90s and the early 2000s are definitely back and seniors are adding them to their sessions! If your heart is a bit retro, think about adding these trends to your summer senior session wardrobe!

1. PLAID: whether you’re going for a shacket or a button up, this grunge
   inspired trend is sure to keep your look down to earth! If you want to make
   your shacket a bit more sophisticated, make it a longer piece instead of
   hitting at the hip.
2. TIE DYE: this trend is popping up all over, but in a new way:
   monochromatic shades! Remember to anchor this look with a solid color
   to make sure you’re outfit is too busy.
3. CLASSIC DENIM: denim is going the way of the 90’s in not only
   shape but wash as well! Classic shapes of the straight leg jean and true
   denim washes are taking over as we head into fall this year.

For Tyra’s second outfit, she went with a beautiful sage two piece top and skirt. This gave a more late 2000s, soft Aaliyah vibe to her. I knew the glass windows at the local college would be the perfect location to soften this look for her and switch her from the tomboy look to the more girly look.

Lastly, we finished off her wardrobe with a casual outfit just to relax the vibe and wrap up an amazing and fun session day. This session was definitely one for the books and pushed my creativity (which I always love a challenge).
